Who needs to register with the tax office?

Mandatory: if the turnover of taxable supplies and imports exceeds AED 375,000 (approx. USD 102,000) in 12 months.

Voluntary: if the turnover of taxable supplies, imports or taxable expenses exceeds 185,000 AED (about 50,000 USD) during the previous 12 months.

How does the registration process work?

The registration requires not only reaching a certain limit, but also gathering a package of documents.

Time frame for obtaining a VAT certificate

Once an application has been submitted, a reply from the tax authority should arrive within 20 business days. However, the registration procedure itself may take longer if the tax authority requests information or documents. Extension of time is individual and depends on the company’s specific activity.
